Process maturity levels

Process maturity curve helps determine which management and improvement approach is most appropriate at each stage of process development.

  • 0–2 | Low maturity
    Manual execution, chaos
At this stage, the priority is to establish basic logic, roles, and sequence of work.
The most relevant approach is process redesign.
  • 2–4 | Medium maturity
    Formalized, partially managed
Once the process becomes more stable and repeatable, the focus shifts to reducing variation, improving quality, and automating routine steps.
The most relevant approaches are Six Sigma and RPA.
  • 4–6 | Managed process
    KPIs, automation, management
At this level, the process is already measurable and managed, so the priority is end-to-end control, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
The most relevant approach is iBPMS.
  • 6–7 | Mature process
    Digital, measurable, improved
At the highest level of maturity, the focus moves to intelligent coordination across functions, predictive decision-making, and adaptive process management.
The most relevant approaches are AI and process orchestration.
